Rusty Cooley is the reigning king of progressive rock guitar music.
The 7-string guitar virtuoso has been turning heads since the mid-90s when he won Houston's "Guitar Masters Series". Since then Rusty has played in several bands (Revolution & Outworld) where he wrote, recorded, and performed original music; written lessons for his site and Chop-From-Hell (one of the most respected guitar instructional sites on the web); recorded for several compilation discs ("Generation Ibanez", "Guitar 2001", "Guitarapalooza", "Ballbuster", & "Warmth in the Wilderness: A Tribute to Jason Becker"); appeared on TV & radio; taught privately; and received accolades from some of rock's top magazines (he was just named by GuitarOne Magazine as one of the "Top 10 Fastest Shredders of All Time") and players (including Jeff Beck's guitar wizard Jennifer Batten).
Rusty has released, via Chops-From-Hell, three top-selling instructional CD-ROMS: "The Art of Picking", "Shred Guitar Manifesto", "Extreme Pentatonics". He has also just released his debut solo CD, "Rusty Cooley", for Lion Records which features 12 incredible cuts.
Rusty's playing is extremely fast, extremely fluid, extremely musical, extremely emotional, and extremely sophisticated - demonstrating an understanding of advanced musical concepts while still rocking out. These qualities have made him one of the most exciting rock players to hit the scene in years, amazing fans and guitarists alike.

1) What are your current projects?
Currently I'm putting a band together to support the release of my debut cd on Lion Music. It's really hard to find guys who can play this stuff!
2) How do these differ from your past work?
The main difference is that this is instrumental as opposed to vocal.
3) Do you have one project that you are most proud of as a guitarist?
I think this CD and a recent demo that I did last October with my old band Outworld is some of my best playing.
4) Can you give our readers a run-down of your basic gear (live and/or studio)?
Right now I'm using a Fender M-80 pre-amp, DBX dual stereo gate, Rocktron Intellifex, and Intellipitch, VHT power amp, 4 Marshall 4X12 cabinets, GCX Ground Control Pro, Rocktron Austin Gold overdrive, Jackson custom 7 string, Ibanez Universe, and a custom Conklin 8 string.
5) Who would you cite as early influences, and who are you favorite new players?
Rhoads, Malmsteen, Gilbert, and Becker.
Currently, if I had to have a favorite, it would be Shawn Lane.
6) Can you give a few tips to aspiring players?
Practice, practice, practice! Stick to your guns and forget about what is trendy.
7) What are your future plans?
To continue to write, record, play live, put out more instructional material, and to just keep practicing and progressing as a musician.
